UTP Chronicles- Chapter 1: Hello UTP, I'm back!!

I know the topic may sound weird because I had actually been back for a long time.

My blog had been “dead” since the day I came to UTP. Needless to say, my life resumed its whirlwind of madness including the hectic days of studying, lectures, and assignments after the first week of stepping back here.

Nevertheless, there’s a lot of fun and excitement as well. So much had happened here. There’s a Chinese gathering for the new batch of juniors, Symphony Fest and others that I will narrate in the later posts.

Unfortunately, a new chapter in blog can’t do without a grand opening. So I had to begin my post from the very first day…

FRIDAY 18th July (The day I arrived in UTP)

Back to register

This is by far the busiest day of all. Upon arriving, the registration office is not open yet so I had to temporarily move all my stuff into Sandeep's room. That cleared a huge space for the car and seeing I still had time, I took my broken bike to Tronoh and repaired it.

Then, I was back in Block O. While waiting, I met the gals and Jonathan.

Finally, the office was open. Everyone rushed in like there's no tomorrow even though by latest we can register on Sunday. But of course, first come, first serve and everyone wants the best room.

Jonathan and I request for V1C. Then, problem came when the guy behind the desk said V1C is closed for registration, which meant we had to register in V2!!

But wait, there's still empty rooms rite? SO WHY DO THEY CUT OFF FURTHER REGISTRATION? After a series of questioning and negotiating, they finally open two rooms for us (Jonathan and I). Thank God and all the lucky stars in the universe. Things will turn ugly if I had moved everything to V1 for nothing.

Keys, locks and open doors

Relief that the little drama was over, I went to check out my new room. Guess what? I bumped into my second predicament.

The door was locked!! Nothing to do with the doorknob since it was already damaged the moment I arrived. Instead, the door was latched from inside!! How the heck did someone latch a door from inside without being inside??

Anyway, the key I'm holding is as useless as a metal piece of junk. I thought of kicking down the door since it was the only option. But before I let this impulsive thought took over, I decided to consult the help of an adult: my Dad.

'Stand back!'

'Wait Dad, u're not gonna....'

A flying MEGA kick from my dad, an ominous sound of wood spilting, screws and bolts flying, and finally, the door was opened.

Now the door needs a padlock…

Out of UTP again to a hardware shop where I choose a new shiny rust-free padlock with a set of spare keys.

Then I was back in UTP again, but to my previous village oldv5 to retrieve all my stuff that I left in the storeroom before the semester holiday. The storeroom was as messy as ever, with all kinds of stuff strewn everywhere. I had to 'dig' my way through the pile of stuff to look for my belongings, especially my pillow, someone had thrown it far to the corner end of the room.

Settling down at last

After that, I was back in V1 again. Finally, it was time to move all the stuff into my room. It was the toughest part of all.

First, I was living on the third floor.

Second, I was moving 3 person's belongings at once!!

After a gruelling 30 minutes, everything was completely moved to my room. I was completely exhausted. But my work was not done yet. I had to “detoxify” my room 360 degree using my newly bought disinfectant spray that claims to kill “99.9% of bacteria” (sounds too good to be true).

At last, a room that is finally habitable for pampered species like me. ;)

A new chapter in my life is about to unfold. What awaits me in UTP?

I found out soon enough.
