1ST Year 1st Sem--and Happy Chinese New Year!!

A new semester had started!! Yes, soon everything will return to 'normal'-by normal I mean a hectic lifestyle full of lectures, assignments, tests and quizzes to fret about.

Had I mentioned this before? Almost all of my lectures will be conducted in Pocket D, and yet we the guys are still stuck in living in the same old V1C. Imagine waking up early every morning and walking that far to lecture. Of course I grumble a bit about it initially, but I'll soon get used to it. On the plus side, it'll keep me healthy having some morning exercise everyday.

I had met some of my new lecturers-some seems promising and some not. The point is, I still had to study hard, harder and smarter perhaps, to maintain my results.

Anyway, this ain't Foundation anymore and as a Chemical Engineering Undergraduate student, this semester I'll be taking the following courses:

Physical Chemistry
Organic Chemistry
Differential Equations
Academic Writing
Introduction to Oil and Gas Industry

In addition, I'm also adding another 2 courses:

Moral Studies
Modern Music

amounting to a total of 17 credit hours if I'm not mistaken, so my timetable is quite packed. Packed with a lot of gaps in between, so I had lectures on most mornings and afternoons, that means no more afternoon naps. Anyhow I'm glad there's not much night classes.

This semester I had been actively involved in a few events such as OCM and EDX recruitment. Other informal event that I'm looking forward is our Chindian Graduation Dinner night.

All these are gonna keep me busy and the crux is I need good time management skills to keep everything in order.

Here's some cam-whorring session:
Steward so excited about his new room

First lecture in pocket D-kinda feel cramped (not enough leg space)

Steward and Yi Herng

Sze Mei, Laura, and Serena

Malaya Crazyman (tat's wat his gtalk says) :p

"Should we add one more subject?" The typical first week 'add and drop' hustle

UTP OCM Recruitment Drive. It was a huge success. Looking forward to getting to know all the juniors soon.

Don't forget our Chindian Graduation Night Dinner. Having a serious meeting with all the commitee members here in V5...

V1C ON FIRE!! False alarm. Just the regular fogging session they do once in a while. But this time they exaggerated a bit, spraying every corner and every room thoroughly. First time seeing this, and I hope those pesky mosquitoes are GONE for good!!

Graham's Black Angel Fish (Graham is a person's name, not the fish name) :p

Seen this cat since last sem, it sure have grown up fast!

I'll be celebrating me new year in Kuching and leaving for my flight soon. To everyone out there, HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
GONG XI FA CAI!!

May the Year of Ox be full of prosperity and good fortune.

Tag: self Q and A session

I had been putting off this tag for quite some time. This is the best time to do it owing to the fact that it's a new year.

1. What's your ambition?

Ambition in career, to be a successful chemical engineer (since I'm studying the course now). Ambition in life, live a long happy and healthy life, that's all I want to ask for.

2. How often do you think of committing suicide?

Not so often!! Yes, I admit there are moments when I wish I just can disappear from this world and end all the pain and sufferings I had. But that's life. Life is always full of ups-and-downs and full of obstacles that we need to overcome with patience and fortitude. The most important thing I learn is to rise up each time we fall, never give up, and believe in yourself

3. Do you think you have enough confidence?

This question is too general I must say. Confidence in terms of what? Confidence in myself? Confidence in what I do? Yes, I do normally have the confidence in what I'm doing. After all, that's the most important element to keep on going. But of course there are times when I doubt myself. Nevertheless, you'll never know until you try. Do not fear failures or mistakes. There's no mistakes in our lives, just lessons to be learnt. Failure is the key for us to start something all over again, each time more intelligently.

4. How many babies you want?

Wow, this is getting personal. Hmm, there's a lot of factors to consider, cost of living rising etc.. and most importantly I'm not married yet!! Perhaps I'll file this question away for now and answer it in the future when I'm ready :)

5. Do you believe in seeing rainbow after the rain?

Yes I do. Just as there's light in every end of a tunnel. The most important thing is to persevere and never give up trying. Many people fail and give up half-way never knowing that they are so close to success.

6. What is your goal for this year?

Study hard and smart. Do well in my undergraduate. No more fooling around! Things are getting tougher every semester and my recent GPA proves it. Besides studying and academics, also wish to live a healthier life (start by saying no to super supper) and live in happier life (no idea how but I'm just going to take things easy and enjoy life)

7. Do you believe in eternity love?

Love can be defined in many ways. Parental love can be eternal and unconditional. The bond of friendship can be forever and lasting. But love in term of romance..hmm.. hard to see nowadays. But if you found your true love someday, you'll be the luckiest person inthe world..

8. What do you say about your life now?

Great!! Living peacefully, have a family that loves me, friends that care for me, no famine and diseases, what more can I ask? Of course there's some very trying and frustrating moments, but I'll overcome it, one step at a time.

9. What feeling do you love the most?

I love feeling happy. Everyone is searching for happiness in their lives. Being loved by those around me makes me happy. So I guess I love being loved. Likewise, I must love and care for others too.

10. What are the requirements you wish from the other half?

Well.. surprise me. IF I someday meet my other half, I don't expect much really, just be yourself. I'll accept and love that person for who she is.

11. Is there anything you want to tell the people you hate?

I'm not referring to anyone in particular here. But assuming that IF I really had hated someone, I'll tell them to please think before you act. Treat others the way you want to be treated. People have feelings too.

12. Do you cherish every single friendship of yours?

I do. I cherish them like I cherish my family. True friends are the people who help us move on with our lives and supported us when the world arpund us collapse. No man is an island. We all need friends as much as we need to breathe.

13. What does flying means to you?

Err.. dunno. Is the word 'flying' a metaphor? I don't like flying in real life. Nice view from above but not worth the ear pain and air-sickness....

14. What do you crave for the most currently?

I crave for nothing materially and I'm content with what I have now. I do crave for a strong mental will and a peace of mind to overcome all the difficulties ahead this semester.

15. Where would your ultimate vacation spot be?

Sarawak? I prefer to see my hometown again rather than spending a whole lot of money to see some fancy places.

16. Describe the person who tagged you in 7 words.

Thoughful, helpful, kind, caring, hardworking, persistent, loving and every other words you can use to describe a good friend.

17. What have you done to yourself that make yourself happy?

To spend time with my friends and families, even if it's just chatting online, all these make me feel happy to be able to share my joys and troubles with them.

18. What will you become in another 10 years to come?

How would I know? I'll leave that to God. A chemical engineer who works with Petronas maybe?

19. What is your lucky number?

I don't believe in superstitious luck. I have to make my own luck.

20. What is your favourite food?

Too many. Anything that's tasty to my tongue will do.

A series of event

The new year had just started. Updating my blog before I get really busy when lecture starts this new sem. I'll let the pictures do most of the talking.

1-4 Jan

Lim and Michael stayed at a few days at my house. Really glad to have spent my time with them, otherwise my remaining holidays will be so mundane and typical. We went to a few places, with me driving to a few of these places. But I must admit I'm a bad driver- (getting lost on the first night, plus my heart-stopping driving skills).

We went to a few malls in KL. All the malls look the same to me. Nothing much to do. Just walk and walk and forever walking. Spent most of our nights at the cybercafe playing garena.

5-8 Jan

It's the end of a long holiday for me and time to head back to UTP. I arrived in UTP at 5 Jan. Had a hard time moving all my stuff into my new room and used up the afternoon to unpack everything, inluding claning the room. At night, there's a short orchestra briefing. The days after that we went through the same routine of orchestra practise, one section in the morning and the other in the afternoon. The rest of the day I'm mostly free. Bored..

9-10 jan

After being stuck with the same routine for the past few days, we decided to skip practise and escape to KL. Just kidding... It just so happened we had no practise on Friday so we planned a trip to KL. We met a few more of our UTP friends who had just completed their STE programme and they decided to spend a day in KL. We checked in at Sun Inn, just a stone throw from Sunway Pyramid. The whole gang hanged out at Sunway Pyramid that night. Next day, we spent the whole day shopping around KL. I've never walked so much or took so much LRT in my life! We went to KLCC and Times Square. Love the decorations they put up.

Dinner at Carl's Jr. First time experience. Everything is so jumbo size! Worth every cent. Love the burgers there. :)

Ice-skating ring in Sunway

Posing with a cute mascot outside a restaurant (despite the fact we didn't dine there)..

Shopping..

Group picture with a dazzling bright red background

Taken in KLCC if not mistaken. Nice and classy decorations.

We spent 2 bucks to get into this washroom with all sorts of cosmetics. I never knew men need that much make-up..

Tamil posing with a four-wheel drive on display

Having steamboat in Shabu restaurant.

Times Square packed with people

Trio: Flute, Yang Qing and Er Hu performing

The cherry blossoms really add a great touch to the New Year festive environment.

11Jan until now..

Tired and exhausted after the KL trip. KL is such a crowded and hectic place. It makes me appreciate that Puchong is not located at the city center. Spent a whole day resting and recovering. After the weekend it's back to the usual practise routine. More friends are coming back soon. Can't believe I'm saying this but I'm can't wait for the new sem to start. May everything goes on smoothly this coming sem. That's all for now. Need to hit the sack. Gudnite..

HAPPY NEW YEAR!! 2009

Before it's too late and 1st January 2009 past by, I wanna wish everyone, my family, friends, and teachers HAPPY NEW YEAR!! May the year 09 be a prosperous year for all of us, be it in education, health, money, relationship, and life.

I want to take this opportunity to thank all my family and friends who wishes me good luck in this year. Indeed, I need all the luck I can to handle another tough year ahead in my studies. May God bless you all. :)

It was my first time experience going to KL to countdown with the massive crowd and to witness the fireworks. It had been a fun and enjoyable experience. Also together with me is some of my UTP batchmates. I'll be blogging about it with more details and upload some photos. Until then...

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Finally had the time to update this post. Here's some pictures:
The countdown group consists of me, Eric, Malaya, Michael, Lim, Liang Yi and Xiao Ci. It was boring waiting for the clock to strike midnight. Time seemed to pass excruciatingly slow so we walked around the area outside KLCC and took a few pictures.
Cars were barred from using the roads that night and the street was jammed full of people and stalls selling all kinds of food and trinkets. We saw some people dressing up in funny and bizzare costumes to liven up the atmosphere. There's quite a number of policemen on patrol that night to keep things in order. But what I found unneccessary was the policemen trying to keep the crowd as close as possible in one tight group. We were not allowed to wandered too far and people sitting on the benches at the nearby park were shooed off too!
Then, finally, at last the moment we were all waiting for... IT'S 12 midnight!! Happy New Year!!
Everyone started shouting cheering, wolf-calling etc..
The first burst of firework got the crowd even wilder. But WTH? We can't see the fireworks!! We're at the wrong side of the building! There's only some jagged reflection of the fireworks on a bulding like a movie projected on a disfigured screen. Haiz.. no choice but to run a half-circle around the building before we finally get a clear view of the firework. Luckily I still manage to get some video although I missed half the show. It was a truly amazing experience though. To get the see the firework so close-up and feel the thunderous 'boom' sending vibrations through your body. It's definitely different from watching on TV.
But after the show things get rough. Everyone was rushing to get home and the already crowded street were crowded to the max! We were packed like sardin (yes,I mean literally) while trying to battle our way through the crowd. A fight even broke out. The policemen were 'conveniently' nowhere to be seen when we need them. But despite the hectic turn of event, I'm glad we still manage to go back home safe and sound. It was a truly wonderful experience. Happy New Year!
