Fly High, Sky-dwellers!

Today my family had a one day trip to KL Bird Park, which we took quite a while to reach because it’s far and we got lost a few times.

We arrived around noon, and I’ll let the pictures do the rest of the talking :)

It’s Saturday so the place was packed with people. Here’s the ticket counter. Locals are charged RM15 (need to show them your IC) while foreigners are charged a whooping RM35!

We entered a huge walk-in aviary where you can view many kinds of birds at close proximity. It’s quite an interesting experience. The birds are quite tame, perhaps used to visitors, although they might peck you if you disturb them while they’re eating.   XD

A photo booth. The birds are real. They were tamely perched on the branch customers after customers. I wonder why they won’t just fly away to their freedom. Maybe the glamour and paparazzi had gotten into them =.=

This bird is scary. Looks like a bird with the face of a racoon and the body of an owl.

 

 

Next, we visited the nursery. This is an incubator where the eggs are incubated and hatched live in front of your eyes! It was really a unique experience to see how the newborn chicks emerge from their egg shells.

This is where the newborn chicks are placed together. Visitors are allowed to touch and hold them in their hands.

There are only three ducklings. I wonder why? Are duck eggs more difficult to hatch? Another interesting question: Why is a duckling yellow but white when they mature? The same applies for chicken, just that they’re brown (can be black too) when they mature. Anyway, I wonder how’s their fate? Maybe most of them will be sold and end up as KFC drumsticks on our dinner plate. XD 

 

This peacock’s tail is beautiful. Too bad there’s no chance to see them fully spread.

This pond is home to the pelicans, egrets, and flamingos. I think the pond is out of fish. (How can any fish population survive within this plethora of predators?) All the birds are being fed directly from the bird keepers.

Last but not least, time for Bird Show! The parrots stole most of the limelight, with their amazing tricks: riding a mini-bike, driving a mini-car, doing simple arithmetic calculations, saying ‘hi’, ‘hello’, and ‘bye-bye’ (I bet soon they’ll be taught to say ‘ni hao’ and ‘vanakam’) and many tricks more. 

This is the best part of the show. A volunteer is asked to hold a stick with a piece of meat stuck at the end. The eagle swooped down with its out-stretched talons inches above your head and grabbed the meat. This picture is taken at the moment during its take-off.

 

That’s the end of our trip. We did manage to visit the National Monument as well. History is not my cup of tea. Nevertheless, it’s important to know some of these common facts and histories about your own motherland.

The main highlight: The National Monument: Built to commemorate all the brave warriors who sacrificed their lives for the freedom and peace of this country.

Going to hit the sack. Have to wake up early tomorrow. Dad’s bringing us to stay a few days in Kerteh. I’d never been to that place before although it’s Dad’s most frequently visited place during his working trips. I’d probably be offline for these few days. Will upload some photos on Facebook if I have the time and mood.
